Lantern Sound Recording Rig - Facilities & Gear

Mick Hargreaves in the first floor control room at the LSRR.

Formerly a bedroom in this 1920's farmhouse, the control room is directly adjacent to the main "live room", where drums are usually recorded. The vertical rack behind Mick houses twelve mic preamps that feed into an Echo Audiofire12 A/D/A I/O, which is Fire-wired to a Mac Pro tower running Apple Logic Pro DAW. Mix monitoring is done through Equator D5's. On the left, there is a dedicated MIDI workstation position, with a Korg K49 controller.

First Floor:

LSRR Analog/Digital Suite & Live Performance Area

Twelve input channels from anywhere in the house feed into the analog front-end in the first floor control room: A selection of modern/vintage solid state and tube microphone preamps with a monitoring/control environment and a dedicated MIDI workstation. Two separate headphone monitor mixes go back out to the floor: A live drum/band room with wood floor and ceiling (hanging cloud baffle over drum position). The adjacent front parlor with baby grand piano and vocal/acoustic booth can be isolated by closing French pocket doors. There are two guitar amplifier isolation booths, one bass amplifier isolation booth. Microphones are often placed in the three-story stairwell to capture ambient sound & reverb.
