Project Management: Apps and Websites

We're constantly transferring .mp3 files (performance evaluation), .aiff files (mix evaluation) .wav files (final premaster files), and storing documents such as song charts, punch lists, contacts for the artist -  let's manage all that online!

Most of these apps and file management services only require an email signup, but charge no signup fee for entry level features. "Pro" level monthly charges get additional bells and whistles. For the artist's purposes, the free level should work fine.

VLC Media Player - Free downloadable cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. If there's an audio format out there, The Orange Cone will probably let you open and play it.

Dropbox  - Cloud storage, file synchronization, personal cloud, client software. We use this to store reference mixes in folders that the artist can access online.

WeTransfer - Direct file transfer service. Cloud storage at "Pro" level. Sometimes we need to send one file to one person, fast. This is a good way.

Google Documents - Cloud-based word processing, spreadsheet functions, handy for to-do lists, song lists, punch-lists, and production credits.
